The Centre for Environmental Strategy at the University of Surrey asked us to examine its Engineering Doctorate and Masters courses and compare them with similar courses offered at other universities. It wanted to find out how Surrey’s courses relating to sustainable engineering related to what prospective students and employers were looking for from such courses, and also to refine the University’s strategy for future development of the courses.
We interviewed employers, analysed job advertisements, searched the websites of professional institutions, and scrutinised competing universities’ course prospectuses.
We teased out clear recommendations about Surrey’s ‘unique selling points’ and the strengths and weaknesses of the current sustainable engineering courses.
